Code of Ethics Training
CODE OF ETHICS TRAINING REQUIREMENT INFORMATION
December 31, 2008 deadline
- Classroom instruction: EBOR offers classes at various times throughout the year. The next COE class is scheduled for September 24, 2008. Kim Daugherty will be teaching this morning class (ETH 1528) at Rend Lake Seasons. Check in time is 8:30 am.
- Home study: The Illinois Association of REALTORS® offers two home study options for continuing education classes. Ordering the Homestudy classes from the board enables REALTORS® to take classes at their own convenience rather than sit in a traditional classroom for scheduled continuing education classes. EBOR has provided a Home Study courses order form for your convenience. The State of Illinois requires a proctored exam for all continuing education courses.
- Online: NAR’s course is available at no cost and has been updated for the second training cycle. This is an NAR developed online course for completion using a computer and the Internet. REALTORS® can stop and restart the course at their convenience within a 30-day time period. Successful completion is recorded in the National REALTORS® Database System (NRDS) and satisfies a member’s COE training requirements.
New Member Orientation
Mandatory ethics training requirements for new REALTOR® members were established by the NAR Board of Directors in 1999 to heighten awareness of the key tenants of the Code of Ethics:
1. To create an awareness of and appreciation for the role the Code can and should play in their professional lives
2. To enhance professionalism and competency
3. To encourage REALTORS® to view their Code of Ethics as a living, viable guide in their daily dealings with clients, customers, and the public
EBOR's next New Member Orientation is scheduled for July 10, 2008. This orientation is open to all board members.
The National Association of REALTORS® has developed an online course that is available at no cost. For more information go to www.realtor.org and click on "Take Code of Ethics". Members completing NAR's online course must still attend the morning session of the local New Member Orientation to fulfill membership requirements.
