Code of Ethics Training

CODE OF ETHICS TRAINING REQUIREMENT INFORMATION

January 1, 2009 through December 31, 2012: Cycle 3

Online: NAR’s course is available at no cost and has been updated for the second training cycle. This is an NAR developed online course for completion using a computer and the Internet. REALTORS® can stop and restart the course at their convenience within a 30-day time period. Successful completion is recorded in the National REALTORS® Database System (NRDS) and satisfies a member’s COE training requirements.

The Board of Directors has decided to accept outside courses as fulfilling the NAR quadrennial COE training requirement. To determine if an outside class satisfies the requirements set forth by NAR, the board staff must have an outline of the course you are submitting for consideration. If you complete and pass an ethics class based on the NAR Code of Ethics from another source between 1/1/2009 and 12/31/2012, please send a copy of your Certificate of Completion and a Course Outline to the board office.

NAR has updated the member profile on realtor.org so members can now display their own Code of Ethics education records. When a member logs on to realtor.org and clicks “My Account” there is a link there where they can update their NRDS record. When they choose that option, they will now see a “Display Education Records” link at the top. When they click that, they will see their Code of Ethics education records, if any.

Please note: if there are no education records in NRDS, a message will appear telling you to contact your local association with any questions. If you do have education records in NRDS they will display. The text at the top tells you the education records will contain Certifications, COE and other education courses. The message also tells you that if you need help on what the Course Code and Course Numbers mean you also need to contact your local associations.

If you have never logged on and used your account on realtor.org, you will need to register first. To register you will need your NRDS# that can be found on the address label of your REALTOR® magazine, on your membership card or by calling the board office.
